Cost: £185.00 + optional donation to the teacher
This retreat is open to everyone and will be of particular interest to people new to Buddhism and the Longchen Mahayana Maha-Ati training programme - as well as to students currently on the Lion's Roar and associated courses.
The teaching will be led by Andrew Patching and will cover a wide range of topics broadly themed under The Three Yanas, or Vehicles, of the Path of Buddhism.
Beginning with some of the main teachings of the earlier schools of Buddhism, we will look at some of the Mahayana teachings contained within the great Buddhist Sutras and finally Vajrayana and the central role of the teacher and the immediacy of one's direct experience.
We will be looking at subjects such as the kleshas or 'poisons', the obstacles and difficulties which seem to bind us and leave us in an unawakened state of suffering.
All the topics will revolve around and centre on the main theme of Bodhicitta, the Heart of Awakening itself. This is the single thread that runs through the entire Buddhist path of the three Yanas from beginning to end, from the confusion of Avidya (or ignorance) to the complete freedom of Vidya and Awakening.
The practice will focus on how we can relate to our difficulties as part and parcel of our meditation and daily life practice and the central role and inspiration of Bodhicitta within this.
There will be an introduction to formless meditation for anyone new to the practice.
The daily schedule will include sitting meditation sessions interspersed with walking meditation, totalling around five hours each day. It will also include daily life activity work periods, a teaching session and question and answer session and discussion periods. There will also be plenty of time for rest and relaxation.
