Andrew Patching

After various academic and professional qualifications including an MA in art therapy and certification in analytical psychotherapy, Andrew worked within the health service and social services for many years before conducting a private practice in individual psychotherapy in London.

After initially attending teachings and retreats in the main schools of Buddhism in the eighties, he trained for several years within the Zen tradition and ordained as a Zen monk in 1990 with Genpo Merzel Roshi in America. After returning to England he finally settled back with his first, most important and root teacher Rigdzin Shikpo and has been a student of his for over twenty years.

Andrew is currently in semi retreat in northwest Wales where he lovingly tends for an infant woodland, having co-ordinated the planting of some 20,000 native species trees in 2007. He teaches on the Lion’s Roar and Path of Freedom programmes, runs retreats at Gelli Faia and leads a new local Longchen group in Bangor, north Wales.
