Stephen Hinde

Stephen Hinde is a student and a teacher within the Longchen Foundation. He has been a student of Rigdzin Shikpo since 1994. Prior to this he has received instruction from  Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso (one of Rigdzin Shikpo’s teachers) since 1990.

When he was fourteen years old he read a book about travellers meeting Tibetan Lamas in the Himalayas and two lights lit up  in his head, one was a love of mountains and climbing and the other was an insatiable curiosity about Buddhism. At aged 47 he says that he is still very much involved in finding out about both!

He has practised and studied a number of different Buddhist approaches, including Theravada Buddhism, Chan, Zen and the Karma Kagyü systems.

In terms of education Stephen studied Physics at the University of Sheffield. He is now completing a Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies at the University of Bristol. His dissertation looks into the death stories of great Tibetan yogins.

He divides his time between his studies, teaching Buddhism, and earns his living with consultancy facilitating discussions between people involved with Technology, Media and the Arts.

He teaches at the Bristol local group and on Path of Freedom and Lion’s Roar weekends. He has also run courses and led retreats on the Avatamsaka Sutra.
