Rigdzin Shikpo
Local Groups - South London
Monday evenings 7.00-8.30pm
United Reform Church
18 Courthill Road Lewisham London SE13 6HB
The Lewisham local group has been running since 2000. We first met in Lewisham Library, and after a short period in a local community centre, established ourselves in a meeting room in the Lewisham United Reform Church. This has proved to be a very happy arrangement. Those attending are a mixture of experienced students and complete beginners who meet weekly to practice formless meditation together and to deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teaching.
We put a lot of emphasis on the practice of formless meditation and developing the view of openness. Once or twice a year we run short courses (4-5 weeks duration) focusing on the main elements of formless meditation. At other times topics from the Path of Freedom course are presented.
The classes are taught by Caroline Cupitt, David Hutchens and Kathy Nairne, all of whom live locally.
The group follows a standard format:
7.00pm |
Formless meditation (30 minutes) |
7.30pm |
Dharma talk (20-30 minutes) |
8.00-8.30pm |
Questions and discussion |
The class meets continuously but with occasional breaks for Bank Holidays and retreats. The winter term finishes on 3rd December. The class resumes on Monday 7th January and will continue until Monday 18th March. Please phone or email before coming for the first time to confirm.
The entrance is directly of Courthill Road (not via the car park). We are on the ground floor room to the right as you enter the building. You need to arrive promptly as the door has to be locked when we start at 7pm
