Welcome to the Lewisham Path of Freedom Group

We are a Buddhist practice and study group of the Longchen Foundation based in Lewisham in south London.

Our everyday world is so familiar and seemingly mundane that we easily take it all for granted. By learning to relate to experience in a simple and direct way we can begin the great journey to discover something about what we truly are and develop the confidence to face anything we might experience.

We meet from 7:00-8:30pm at the Lewisham Unitarian Meeting House, 41 Bromley Road, Catford, London SE6 2TS with our Spring term beginning 8th January, 2024 until 18th March, 2024 with a half-term break on 12th February 2024. Our current schedule of classes can be found here: https://www.longchenfoundation.org/series/lewisham-path-of-freedom/

There is no fee, but we ask for a donation towards costs.

About Us

The Lewisham group has been meeting since the year 2000. The classes are taught by Caroline Cupitt, David Hutchens and Kathy Nairne, all of whom live locally and are close students of Rigdzin Shikpo, who is the director and primary teacher of the Longchen Foundation.

Those attending are a mixture of experienced students and complete beginners who meet weekly to practice meditation together and to deepen their understanding of the Buddhist teaching.

The core teaching of our group is the view of complete openness towards your experience and the development of that attitude through the practice of formless meditation. Once or twice a year we run short courses (4-5 weeks duration) focusing on the main elements of formless meditation. At other times topics from the Path of Freedom course are presented.

If you are interested in attending the group or for more information please contact David or Caroline on 020 8690 8778 or email us via southlondon@longchenfoundation.org.

About the Longchen Foundation

The Longchen Foundation is an international community of Buddhist students and teachers practising in the Mahayana Maha Ati (Dzogchen) tradition of Buddhism. Founded in 1975 by Chogyam Trungpa and Dilgo Khyentse, we provide a completely western perspective of the Buddhist path as taught by Rigdzin Shikpo. We offer comprehensive training programs in Buddhist practice and view as well as a number of weekend classes and weekly local groups.
