From Heart of Buddha: Openness Clarity Sensitivity (Oxford 2016)
The mind becomes bored very easily, so it begins to create things to make life interesting for you. It starts creating its own picture show. And the picture show is just thoughts, images, feelings. Sometimes they’re happy; sometimes they’re not. Funnily enough, it doesn’t matter whether it’s happy or sad. Because the most important thing is to keep us entertained. You may say, “Oh, I don’t want to be entertained by horrible things!” But you do.
Because the strange thing is they wouldn’t happen unless at some level, you wanted them to happen. You actually give rise to that. It depends what you mean by “you” of course.
