One of the Ati texts says: Even though sentient beings like ourselves suffer all the pangs of samsaric existence, they never did anything wrong. And Samantabhadra, the All-Good, who never fell into samsaric existence and never suffered, never did a good thing – in spite of him being called “the All-Good.” You might say, “Well, that’s a bit weird -why would they say that?”
It’s not a question of blame. There’s no super cosmic finger pointing at you from somewhere and saying, “This is all your fault.” It is not to say, as teachers we don’t say that sometimes – but there are reasons for that. But generally speaking, it is true. You want to believe that you did these things yourself, because otherwise your sense of ego would collapse. In a way, you would sooner be to blame than not. Because at least there’s somebody to blame. And that’s you. And that means you exist.
What arises is spontaneous. Samantabhadra, the All-Good, is spontaneously good, if you want to put it that way. He never did anything or has to do anything to become good. It so happens for a while our mind, our being, is associated with confusion. And therefore these negative things happen. Your attitude should not be: “I’m looking for somebody to point a finger at me, to confirm my existence.”

Join the Longchen Foundation for a public viewing on Zoom of the second talk of Rigdzin Shikpo’s Heart of Buddha 2016 teaching on Openness Clarity Sensitivity.
The Zoom session will begin with 10 minutes of formless meditation, followed by the streaming of Rigdzin Shikpo’s teaching together with Q & A – somewhat around an hour total. Attendees are welcome to remain after for some discussion and reflection.
